YOUNG PEOPLE MEET THE PEMBROKE DOCK MAYOR.
On Friday 27th June and Wednesday 2nd
July Councillor Ron Watts, Mayor of Pembroke Dock, together with the
Town Clerk, Ian Jones, met with the youth of the town to discuss what
facilities they would like to see made available to them.
These sessions were arranged through the work of the
Police Community Support Officer team based in the town and in
particular PCSO Nadia Sullivan who had spent time selecting suitable
dates and generating interest in the proposed meet and greet session.
The Town Council team met with children and youths of all age groups and
asked them what facilities they would like to see in the town. The idea
is that the town council would then see if there is scope for working in
partnership with other youth agencies and voluntary groups to provide
what they would like as well as improve the existing facilities.
Police Community Support Officer Nadia Sullivan said
“A lot of thought and preparation for the evening had taken place with
myself and the youth workers of Bush Street Youth Club, which meant that
the ideas and suggestions brought forward by the young people were
realistic and would have a positive effect on their leisure facilities
in the community. Some of the younger children asked the Mayor if he
could arrange for greater access to the youth club for their age group,
however, the main request was to enhance the area behind Bush Street
Youth Club know as the “Half Pipe”. The Mayor and Town Clerk also took
the opportunity to discuss improving facilities in the Memorial Park.
All the suggestions were listened to and the young
people were told that their voices had been heard and ideas would be
discussed at a forthcoming meeting of the Town Council. The Mayor and
Town Clerk promised that they young people would be kept informed about
progress on the suggestions they had made.
The Mayor and Town Clerk then went on patrol with
PCSO Sullivan throughout the town to look at areas where young people
congregate and to ask them first hand about their views of the town.
Both the Mayor and the young people themselves agreed
that the evening had gone really well and both are looking forward to a
closer working relationship and joint collaboration in the future.
