16.  PATERCHURCH TOWER

Situated directly opposite the Hospital on the northern side of Fort Road it is partly hidden by the Dockyard Wall. It is a Defensive Tower dating back to the 13th century and was once owned by the former Knight's of St. John of Jerusalem. It is an excellent example of a 'First floor hall' tower.
