17. ROYAL DOCKYARD MOORING AND SALVAGE DEPOT Pembroke Dock

 17. ROYAL DOCKYARD MOORING AND SALVAGE DEPOT
At one time the depot was commanded by a Lieutenant Commander whose official title was that of 'Resident Naval Officer' and 'Queen's Harbour Master'. Today the appointment of the R.N.O. is an honorary one. The 'Pickling Pond' may still be seen by looking through the main entrance of the Salvage Depot. The 'Pickling' or 'Mast Pond' was in the days of the 'Wooden Walled' sailing ships used to keep masts and spars from drying out and losing its springiness.
