A county councillor and a former Mayor, Sue Perkins is a keen campaigner for the town and is involved in many organisations including the Bush and Park Tenants Association, the Friends of the Memorial Park and Communities First. As leader of the Labour Group in the County Council and a member of the planning committee and National Parks she brings added information to meetings.

She has six boys, one living out his dream as a diving instructor in Thailand, two teachers, two in retail business and one still at University. She has one daughter still in school.
